How long is too long
Have you ever had to wait at home for a delivery or for someone to arrive?
Was you pacing up and down wondering how long it will be until you can finally leave the house?
Fortunately for you this only happens every so often but for your beloved pet, this normally happens each day.
The UK has an average of 8.5 million dogs meaning 1 in 2 households own at least 1 of our most loyal, social friends.
In the UK 96% of families go to work for at least 8 hours per day.
From getting ready to leaving the house and returning it averages out at 10 hours 30 minutes given that you work 8 hours per day and live relatively close to work.
During this time your 4 legged friend waits for you by the door wondering when you will be back and when they can finally go to the bathroom.
The maximum time a dog should be left alone for is 6 hours given that your dog is over 18 months old. Your dog should also be walked before and after they have been left to tire them out.
During their time alone you should also provide mind stimulating toys that will allow them to pass on the time by finding treats and figuring out new ways to get to them.
If your dog is left too long with no stimulation toys, they will soon begin to show signs of destructive behaviour like the image below.
So how long do you think is too long, speak to your local dog walker today to find out ways that your can keep your dog active and stimulated whilst your away.
